Marton Fucsovics and Sebastian Baez played out a heated clash during their encounter in Lyon. The pair locked horns in the first round in the final week preparations ahead of the 2023 French Open. While the match result went Baez’s way, he did get some scolding from the Hungarian player.

Baez winning the first set 6-4 had Fucsovics frustrated. To add on that, the celebration by the Argentine on winning points further infuriated Fucsovics. The Hungarian somehow managed to keep himself in check before all hell broke lose in the second set. With Baez taking a narrow lead of 3-2 in the second set, Fucsovics couldn’t hold it in.

As the two players approached their benches, Fucsovics asked Baez, “How old are you? 12 years old?” to which Baez replied, “No, 22.” Fucsovics retorted saying, “You’re acting like 12 years old. These f***ing 20 year old guys, not that he is the only one.”

He then started talking to the chair umpire claiming, “(Baez’s) Playing so unfair. Vamos for every point I miss, screaming like a b****.” While Fucsovics continued to throw allegations against the Argentine, Baez maintained his calmness and refused to interact from his bench.

As Marton Fucsovics‘ frustration grew, his language deteriorated. Keeping the spirit and decency of the game intact, the chair umpire was left with no choice but to warn and intervene into the matter. As Fucsovics was returning to the baseline, the chair umpire made his stance clear and reminded the Hungarian of the code of conduct that was violated by the player.

“It’s ok you talk with me, but I don’t want this kind of language. I understand that you are frustrated and that you don’t like it, but I don’t want these words. I’m happy to talk with you about it,” said the chair umpire. Fucsovics promptly interrupted saying, “It was the same last week, I don’t know who (Djokovic) against Norrie, they are allowed to do this.”

The chair umpire presented his sympathies but reminded Fucsovics of his wrongdoings again. Replying to Fucsovics, the umpire said, “I know, but this is too much. Please don’t use those words.” Fucsovics gave no further reply as he returned to his position shaking his head in frustration. The match became interesting when Fucsovics forced a tiebreaker but Baez held his nerve to clinch a straight-set win and progress further.
