Miami’s unbearable heat continues to trouble players as it makes a major impact at the ongoing Miami Open.
With the rise in temperatures, it challenges the players to their peak. It did the same for Italian Matteo Berrettini during his first-round match against Andy Murray.
After making a strong statement in the first round, Berrettini lost his momentum a little as Murray was starting to make a comeback. Soon, the players had played nearly two hours of tennis under the scorching Miami heat, and it was starting to take a toll on them.
While serving in the second set, Berrettini stumbled for a moment and used his racket to get himself back up. He almost fell over while serving, but soon regained his balance and took a small water break.
A similar incident took place a couple of days ago with Arthur Cazaux, who fainted during his match and had to be taken out of the match. Luckily for Berrettini, it was a slight hiccup, and the Italian was soon ready to go. It was a huge worry for the tennis world, as the Italian had just returned from his injuries.
Scorching Miami heat halts play as Andy Murray makes a comeback against Matteo Berrettini to seal second-round place
Another day at the Miami Open, and one more player falls prey to the testing weather conditions. After Arthur Cazaux, who fainted during his match, it was Matteo Berrettini who was about to faint.
The play was halted for a while, and the Italian regrouped his thoughts to get back on the court. Also, it must be noted that the umpire and opponent’s reaction time was impressive, as they were almost there by the player within a few seconds.
Luckily, nothing happened to the Italian, who was fresh from an injury break. Despite the minor hiccup, he returned to court to try to get his first ATP win since the US Open.
However, that was not going to happen, as Andy Murray was focused on making a comeback. From a set down, the Brit took the match to the third set, where he closed it out in style. It was a huge win for Murray as he moved on to set up an exciting second-round clash against Tomas Etcheverry.
