Young Russian sensation Mirra Andreeva became the latest victim of poor umpiring during her recent clash against Madison Keys in the round of 16. The young tennis prodigy had to go through the unfortunate umpire mistake, and as always, it happened at a very crucial juncture.

Interestingly, this is not the first time Holger Rune once asked a chair umpire, “Do you get punished for the wrong calls you make?” Well, chair umpiring has been below standard in the last couple of months. Wrong calls have cost players a lot, and certainly, none approve of them.

Andreeva, in her match against Madison Keys, was looking solid as she won the first set 6-3. She lost the second set in the tiebreaker but still looked like the better player. However, she fell back in the third set, with Keys taking a 5-2 lead.

As Andreeva was serving to stay in the match, something really unfortunate happened. The score was 40-40 when Andreeva attempting a forehand, slipped and the racquet flung out of her hand.

It was almost as if she left it. However, the umpire had a completely different way of looking at it as Andreeva was given a penalty for throwing the racquet. She certainly did leave the racquet but at no point was that done out of anger or anything of that sort.

This gave Keys Match Point and a chance the American simply couldn’t pass up. A forehand winner did the trick, as Keys won the contest 3-6, 7-6, 6-2. The British crowd was unimpressed and felt that it was super unfair to the young girl from Russia. The booing didn’t stop, and the umpire has surely picked up a lot of slack for the poor call.

Mirra Andreeva is taking the tennis world by storm big time. She is impressing everyone with her high-quality tennis. Just a young teenager and the kind of impact she is having on the tour is very much loved by the crowd. She first made people look at her when she made it to the round of 16 in Madrid. She was once again seen at the French Open where she made it to the third round. However, the Russian lost to Coco Gauff after winning the first set.

Signs were eventually positive. Her next challenge was to win on grass. It is difficult for the best to change from clay to Grass. So one did expect the teenager to struggle. However, she defied the odds and had a very promising run to the fourth round. She also won a set against Keys in the fourth round but eventually got defeated. She is playing really well. All one would demand now is consistency and mental strength. If she can promise that to her fans, we may be looking at the next big thing in world tennis.
