Speaking to the WTA website about the experience of playing in her first grass-court match, the Russian said, “On the first practice, I fell three times.” Andreeva remarked that it was quite challenging for her to adjust to the grass. She explained that the movement, the bounce of the ball, and the slipperiness of the grass were all different from what she was used to. She said that she was trying to take small steps, but she still felt a bit slow. However, the Russian was confident that she would get used to it eventually.

Following her runner-up finish at the Australian Open Juniors event, Andreeva bagged two consecutive ITF titles in Switzerland, which earned her a wildcard entry at the WTA Madrid Open. The supremely talented Andreeva, who possesses a solid backhand, enjoyed a successful run in Madrid. Heading into her first Major Grand Slam at Roland Garros, Andreeva came through the qualifying rounds and made it to the third round. She even managed to take a set off fellow teenager Coco Gauff in their third-round encounter before being knocked out in three sets.

The shutterbugs will continue to follow the exciting Mirra Andreeva as she squares off against World No. 101, Chloe Paquet, in the second round of the qualifiers.
