Mirra Andreeva has been the talk of the town for the last few days on the Tour. Her sudden rise to fame has been the product of some really amazing tennis at a very young age. The Russian has once again come into the record books here at Wimbledon as she becomes the third youngest player to reach the third round of the women’s singles draw.

Andreeva, on the back of two solid wins in the main draw, became a part of this special record. She is only 16 years and 68 days old. The only two women in front of her in this record are Kim Clijsters (1999) and Coco Gauff (2019). Notably, there is no denying the fact that the Russian has looked solid so far in this year’s Championships. Her first round was against Wang Xiyu.

It was a hard-fought three-set contest, and Andreeva held her nerve to come out on top. The second round saw a much better performance, as she knocked out the tenth seed, Barbora Krejcikova, in just a little more than an hour. She awaits to know who her third-round opponent is. It will be either 22nd seed Anastasia Potapova or Qualifier Kaja Juvan. Andreeva will be confident enough to push over both players.

Mirra Andreeva has shown the world what a young sensation she is. The fact that her ranking is 102, as it’s early days in her career, has not affected her one bit. She has to play qualifiers to make it to the main draw; however, the Russian is unmoved despite that and is breezing through the qualifiers. Her success doesn’t only stop there, as she carries that form onto the main draw and has shown a lot of promising talent so far.

She made it to the Round of 16 at the Madrid Open. Following that, she made it to the third round of the French Open, where she lost to Coco Gauff in three sets. To back that up, she has now made it to the third round of Wimbledon as well. She might still go deeper, as the draw has opened up for her. She has earned this as she breezed through the qualifiers and has done really well in the first two rounds as well.
