Mirra Andreeva blasted into the fourth round of the 2023 Championships, as she secured a straight sets victory over Anastasia Potapova on Sunday. The Russian teenager remains the only qualifier remaining in either the women’s or men’s section of the draw. The 16-year-old won three qualifying matches to reach her second successive Grand Slam main draw.
Mirra Andreeva was asked if she remains optimistic about repeating Emma Raducanu‘s feat, who won the US Open 2021 Women’s Singles title. The Briton started out her campaign in the qualifying rounds, winning 10 straight matches to claim her maiden Grand Slam title.
The Russian teenager refused to get carried away by the situation and wants to focus on the current situation. She heaped praise on Emma Raducanu for her extraordinary feat which she achieved two seasons ago at the Flushing Meadows. “Of course, in 2021 she did an amazing job. Everyone was impressed. I think she was impressed also to pass the quallies and to win the slam at 18. It’s amazing. But me, I just try to not think about it. I think it will disturb me, all these thoughts,” said Andreeva.

Mirra Andreeva determined to remain focused amidst recent breakthrough
Mirra Andreeva is determined to remain focused on her upcoming matches, despite all the attention she has been receiving from the tennis world. Just two months ago, not many fans would have heard about this talented teenager. However, after breakthrough performances at the French Open and now at Wimbledon, there is a lot expected out of her.
“I just try to play every match and don’t think how far I have gone already or which round I’m playing, against who I’m playing. I just try to play every point. Doesn’t matter against who. Doesn’t matter which round. I just play my game. I don’t change anything mental-wise, tennis-wise. So, yeah, I’m just playing,” the Russian added in the press conference.
Mirra Andreeva will now face Madison Keys in the fourth-round encounter on Monday. The Russian completely outplayed Anastasia Potapova in the third round, securing a straight-sets victory. The 16-year-old managed to reach the third round of the French Open last month, where she was defeated by Coco Gauff in three sets.
This will be the youngster’s first appearance in the fourth round of a main draw. Madison Keys is a highly experienced campaigner and is a pretty dangerous player on grass courts. This will certainly be a huge test for Mirra Andreeva.
