Last year’s Australian Open Women’s finalist, Mirra Andreeva, has evolved a lot over a year. She has taken the WTA draw by storm and continues her promising game. Entering the Australian Open 2024, the 16-year-old cruised past her first two matches.
After a thrilling first-round victory, she was up against three-time Grand Slam finalist Ons Jabeur. However, this did not stop the youngster from staring at the Rod Laver Arena. She created history by beating her idol Jabeur in straight sets. It was an embarrassing match for the Tunisian, who made 24 unforced errors, forcing her to win only two games in the whole match. Andreeva won the game 6-0,6-2 to advance to the third round at a Slam event for the second time.

This is what the 16-year-old Mirra Andreeva said to the AO Press:
Honestly, after I lost the final, I was just super upset. I didn't think about anything else. For maybe a week I was just replaying the match in my head, It's not the most painful loss of my life. I will have, I'm sure, a lot of offensive matches where I may be late in the score, and then I lose.
She recalled her experience at the girl’s finals during an interview. After fighting hard, the Russian replayed the same game in her head repeatedly. Knowing it would not be her first painful match, she capitalized on her opportunity to play at the Rod Laver Arena again. The future remains bright for Andreeva.
