Team Eagles was up against Team Hawks in the 2023 edition of the World Tennis League. Team Eagles won the match by a narrow 31-28 margin. Courtesy of a superb performance by Daniil Medvedev Eagles clinched the important win. Medvedev outperformed Hubert Hurkacz 10-4 to clinch the first win for his team. It was a crucial win for the Eagles as they had lost to the Kites in their first match of the tournament.

After the match was over, Andrey Rublev and Hubert Hurkacz teamed up against Mirra Andreeva and Iga Swiatek. It was the ‘Battle of the Sexes’ between these seasoned competitors. At the start of this friendly encounter, Andreeva was heard saying to Rublev:

I don't think you have a chance guy.

Mirra Andreeva the young star from Russia had a superb 2023 season. Besides she had performed well in her debut season of the World Tennis League. Though this was a funny banter between the players, it was an epic showdown between four of the extremely talented young players. The Eagles will be next up against the Falcons on the last day of the tournament.

Daniil Medvedev’s superb performances clinch the win for the Eagles even after the loss to Mirra Andreeva and Andrey Rublev in the first round

In the first round of the mixed doubles the Polish star Iga Swiatek teamed up with Hubert Hurkacz. Their team defeated the duo of Mirra Andreeva and Andrey Rublev. However, the Eagles came back strongly in the second round in which Andreeva teamed up with Sofia Kenin to defeat Caroline Garcia and Iga Swiatek.

Next up was the men’s doubles match in which the Russian pair of Medvedev and Rublev defeated Hurkacz and Casper Ruud. This win brought the scores of both teams very close to each other. The fourth dual was the women’s singles. Sofia Kenin provided the advantage for the Eagles beating Caroline Garcia. Thus, it was now up to the final round where Medvedev was to face Hurkacz in which the Russians had the superiority over Hurkacz.

The last day of the World Tennis League will feature matches between the Eagles and Falcons and Kites and Hawks. Kites lead the list with two wins, Eagles and Falcons have one win each. The Hawks are at last with two losses.
