Spanish tennis legend Rafael Nadal returned to the tennis court after a long wait of eleven months. The 37-year-old also registered two emphatic wins as he beat Dominic Thiem and Jason Kubler in straight sets before falling to Jordan Thompson. These two wins sent an alarming sign to the opponents while Nadal’s fans erupted in joy. But it was short-lived as Nadal pulled out of the 2024 Australian Open citing a muscle tear.

It was nothing less than a shock for his fans. Nadal’s colleagues cum opponents like Carlos Alcaraz, meanwhile, extended their wishes to the Spaniard. Experts, on the other hand, analyzed the issue with Nadal’s fitness. Monica Puig analyzed Nadal’s injury and said it is not surprising.

The former Puerto Rican tennis player claimed that it is normal for the body to react this way. Puig cited her own example to explain how other body parts become injury-prone after the earlier injury heals.

It makes the whole tennis world sad but it is not really a surprise. When you are coming back from an injury, you start compensating for a billion things. I hurt my shoulder (while) compensating for my elbow injury. Your body tries to find ways to feel strong. Rafa who relies heavily on his physicality, well, the body had an answer.
Monica Puig said on Tennis Channel.

Rafael Nadal does not see his injury as bad news

While Rafael Nadal’s fans are distraught at the news of their star getting injured again and not being able to play at the 2024 Australian Open, the 37-year-old does not see this as bad news. Nadal feels there is some positivity in this sad news.

I have worked very hard during the year for this comeback and as I always mentioned my goal is to be at my best level in 3 months. Within the sad news for me for not being able to play in front of the amazing Melbourne crowds, this is not very bad news and we all remain positive with the evolution for the season.
Rafael Nadal said while annoucing the news of his pullout.

Rafael Nadal seems to be looking at this opportunity to further work on his fitness. It is a known fact that Nadal is eyeing the French Open and then the 2024 Paris Olympics. Now as he has got enough time to work before he walks out on his fortress, Nadal will look to come out as robust as before.
