Serena Williams recently announced that she will soon be retiring from professionally playing tennis, the 40-year-old made the statement that she will be calling it quits after competing at the US Open this year which is the final mahor tournament of the season, the American icon received a huge reception in the first round of her farewell tournament.

In the first round of the US Open, Serena Williams faced Danka Kovinic. The American professional defeated Kovinic in straight sets by 6-3, 6-3. Serena received a massive reception from the crowd as this is her home soil and the final tournament of her career, she is scheduled to face a tough challenge in Anett Kontaveit in the second round of the tournament.
World number 1, Iga Swiatek commented on Serena’s win, she said, “For sure it was like the most popular first round of a slam ever. Yeah, it’s just amazing. It shows how much she has changed our sport and how much she has done. I’m pretty happy that she can experience something like that.“
“I also feel that not every player would handle that kind of fuss around your first match of the tournament. She’s handling it pretty well, as usual. So that’s just confirmation of how great she is,” Swiatek added further.

In the first round of the US Open, Iga Swiatek breezed past Jasmin Paolini in straight sets as the Polish professional won the game by 6-3, 6-0. She is scheduled to face American professional Sloane Stephens in the second round of the tournament.
