“Most-watched match of all time” Nick Kyrgios predicts a massive encounter against Rafael Nadal in their upcoming semi-final clash in Wimbledon
Rafael Nadal and Nick Kyrgios
World No. 4 Rafael Nadal and World No. 40 Nick Kyrgios will be engaging in what promises to be a high-entertaining match in the semi-finals of the 2022 Wimbledon Championships. The two men will meet in Wimbledon for the third time with the spoils shared so far in meetings at the All-England Club. Kyrgios defeating Nadal in the 4th round of the 2014 Wimbledon as a wildcard brought him a lot of attention as he was making his debut at the Grand Slam.
While Kyrgios had a straight-set win over Cristian Garin in the quarter-finals, Nadal had to dig deep and emerged victorious after 4 hours and 20 minutes after a 5-set battle against Taylor Fritz with the final set going into the tiebreaker. The win takes Nick closer to his maiden singles Grand Slam title and Nadal to his 3rd Wimbledon and 23rd career Grand Slam title with the trophy only two more wins away for either of them.

“Mouth-watering kind of encounter”: Nick Kyrgios on the match with Rafael Nadal
While Kyrgios finished his match earlier and had to wait for the result of the match between Nadal and Fritz, the Australian did hint that he believed Nadal would be the one meeting him in the semi-finals. Speaking in his post-match interview, Kyrgios was confident that the two players would definitely put on a show for the fans when they clash.
“Yeah, obviously it would be pretty special to play Rafa here. We’ve had some absolute battles on that Centre Court. He’s won one against me, and I’ve won one against him. Obviously, we know we are two completely different personalities. I feel like we respect the hell out of each other, though. I feel like that would be a mouth-watering kind of encounter for everyone around the world. That would probably be the most-watched match of all time. I would argue that,” said Kyrgios.
The only thing however that remains to be confirmed is if Rafa will actually make it to the match as he had to overcome an abdominal injury in the quarter-finals as he took a medical timeout at the end of the first set. After the win, Rafa admitted having doubts whether he will be indeed playing in the semi-finals as he will undergo multiple tests to determine if he is fit enough to play.
