“My body had enough” Olympic Gold Medalist Monica Puig announces her retirement after 3 years of suffering injuries and surgeries

Monica Puig had a phenomenal run at the 2016 Rio Olympics. She became the only unseeded player to win an Olympic Gold Medal. She also became the first Latin American champion in the women’s singles category in tennis. Her performance was extremely special and it came at an unbelievable stage.
The Puerto Rican tennis player didn’t manage to recreate that amazing at any of the big stages after that. But she was mighty impressive in the way she played tennis. She was showing promise and it was believed that a time will come when her performance will start improving.
But the 28-year-old suffered from multiple injuries and surgeries which left her with no option but to wait for the right moment to make a comeback to tennis. When the comeback finally came it was impressive but the injuries started to show up again and she had to take repetitive breaks from the tour. Now, Finally, she has decided that enough is enough and it is time for her to say goodbye to the game.
Monica Puig decides to retire from Tennis
Monica Puig created history by winning the 2016 Women’s Single Gold Medal at the Rio Olympics. She was more than impressive and managed to defeat players way higher ranked and with more experience than her.
Monica Puig after suffering from multiple injuries and surgeries decided that it was time to give importance to her body. She finally decided that she’ll be retiring from the game until further notice. In an Instagram post, she wrote, “Over the past 28 years of my life, tennis has been my constant. It has given me some of the most thrilling and memorable experiences I could have ever asked for. But, sometimes, good things come to an end. Today, I announce my retirement from tennis. After a tough 3-year fight with injuries and 4 surgeries, my body had enough.”
Finally, she wrote, “This decision isn’t an easy one because I would’ve loved to retire on my own terms, but sometimes life has other plans and we have to open new doors that lead to exciting possibilities. It’s not a goodbye, but a see you soon”
