“Obviously, been able to be consistent in 2022. I guess you could say it was a breakthrough year,” Kyrgios further added, giving the credit to his 2022 performance which he thinks aided in his popularity. After the successful 2022, Kyrgios has set his eyes on the upcoming season.
“I’m training well, enjoying it, mentally feeling good. That’s all that really matters. Whether I go in there and win the [Australian Open] or lose first round, I’m the same person. I’m taking it day by day, I’m a day-by-day person. I’m not thinking ahead at all,” Kyrgios said about his preparations.
Nick Kyrgios’ turnaround year and role of his girlfriend Costeen Hatzi
As the next season is around the corner, let’s take a look at the incredible 2022 of Nick Kyrgios. The Australian star started the season with a bang by winning the Australian Open doubles event. In the summer, Kyrgios made his first Grand Slam final appearance at Wimbledon and gave a tough fight to Serbian great Novak Djokovic.
Recently, the 27-year-old gave the credit for this incredible turnaround to her girlfriend Costeen Hatzi. Kyrgios said it would be fair to recognize her as the ‘secret weapon’ behind his 2022 ascendance. He believes the happiness and peace he had off the court helped him with his on-court success.
Though Kyrgios scaled new heights in his tennis career, he failed to win his maiden singles Slam. Kyrgios recently said that winning it at the Australian Open in front of his home would be nice but not without some pressure on his shoulders. The Aussie will be hoping to walk an extra mile this year and live his dream of a Grand Slam champion.
