Daniil Medvedev is explaining what it is like to be his fan. The World No.1 is gearing up for his title defence at the 2022 US Open. He stopped Novak Djokovic from achieving a calendar slam last year after defeating him in straight sets in the Arthur Ashe stadium. Daniil last played in the 2022 French Open as he was not allowed to play Wimbledon due to their ban on Russian and Belarusian players.

Medvedev reached the final of the 2022 Australian Open but lost to Rafael Nadal in a draining 5-set match. He’s one of the top contenders at the last grand slam of the year. Medvedev’s game is defined by his intensive court coverage and tactical service game. He has immensely improved his serve and holds a good first-serve average. He will play Stefan Kozlov in his first-round US Open match on August 29.

Recently, Medvedev provided a thorough and hilarious answer when asked about why someone should be his fan. He said, “It’s going to be a little hard for me, but I’ll say. I think if you look at Daniil Medvedev only on the tennis court, only as a tennis player, maybe it’s not so easy to like him as much as I do because, I mean, my technique is bit strange. My style of play is probably not the flashiest, but that’s because I want to win”

He further added, “When I was young, when I was 18, I hit the ball as hard as I could. Maybe people would like it more, but at the same time, it would have been difficult to win probably not a Grand Slam. I feel like when I interact with my fans, if they know a bit more about who I am in real life, they start liking me more.”

It’s no secret that fans enjoy watching Medvedev play and also admire his off-court personality. Medvedev finally answered, “I think my personality with what I am on the tennis court, what I am right after in interviews or my personal life is what makes some people a fan of Daniil Medvedev.”
