Naomi Osaka was knocked out of her comeback tournament in the round of 32 after her loss against Karolina Pliskova. The Japanese tennis star recently made her comeback to the court at the 2024 Brisbane International after a year-long break. She had played her last tournament back in September 2022 and took a long break after, as she was pregnant with her first child.

The 26-year-old played against Tamara Korpatsch of Germany in her first match of the tournament and secured a pretty easy win. She then moved on to the round of 32 where she took on Czech international Karolina Pliskova.

Pliskova, who was also coming back from a wrist injury, had a good head-to-head record against Osaka and she maintained that after winning the match 3-6, 7-6(4), 6-4. She turned things around after losing the first set.

The Japanese ace was optimistic after her loss against Pliskova. She gave the crowd a big wave after her loss and said in the post-match conference that although she was disappointed; she knew that she would eventually get where she wanted to be if she kept on training and putting in the work.

Yeah, I mean, I think for me even stepping on the court is a personal win because a couple of weeks ago I was even doubting if I could play with everyone -- Even though it's super disappointing today, I know that if I keep training and if I keep putting in the work, then I'll eventually get to where I want to be.

Naomi Osaka now shifts her focus to the 2024 Australian Open

The 4-time Grand Slam champion’s primary aim was to make her return at the 2024 Australian Open. However, she had to gain confidence and get in touch before participating in the Grand Slam. Thus, she took part in Brisbane International. The intention with which she participated in the tournament has been fulfilled.

I think I'm enjoying myself a lot more. I also realize there's a lot of things that aren't in my control… I feel more aware that I'm playing the best players in the world

The Japanese might turn things around at the Australian Open with a phenomenal performance there, despite being unable to impress much at the Brisbane International. She has won the Australian Open twice and thus has a great record in the tournament.
