Former World No.1 and 2-time US Open Champion Naomi Osaka returned to the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center to take part in a forum. Naomi Osaka has been on maternity leave for a while now and gave birth to her first daughter in July. She was seen giving an interview to ESPN where she was asked about fellow American player Coco Gauff and her achievements in the tournament so far.
Naomi Osaka stated, “Seeing her doing well in her home Grand Slam is really cool. I cheer for her every match she plays.” When asked about the American’s run here at the US Open 2023, Osaka also mentioned that she is really happy and proud that Gauff is speaking about so many topics and standing up for herself and these are the qualities that she really loves about her. Naomi added, she would love to have her child look up to Coco Gauff as a role model because of her qualities as a person.
In a heartwarming message, Osaka stated, “I’m always really proud of everything she does. She seems like such a good person. Everything she’s doing & speaking out about so many different topics. It’s something I’d love to have my kid to look up to as a role model.”
The 4 time Grand Slam Champion has shared quite a few memorable moments with Coco Gauff on and off the court and is like a mentor to the American teen. Osaka also aims to return on Tour and will most likely participate in the Australian Open 2024. Hopefully, fans can witness more of the bond that these two share soon.
Recently, even Daniil Medvedev made Andy Rublev the Godfather of his daughter. This just shows that tennis is much more than just a sport.
Coco Gauff to fight for a seat in the Championship round
The American 6th seed, who dominatingly defeated Jelena Ostapenko in straight sets during the quarter-finals of the US Open, is looking more confident than ever going into the semis. Having won the Cincinnati Masters just about a few weeks ago, Gauff will be looking to stay in the same mindset to try and win her maiden Grand Slam Title.
She is the youngest American to reach the semi-finals at the Flushing Meadows since Serena Williams in 2001. She is all set to face Karolina Muchova in the round of 4. It will be interesting to see who gets to secure a seat in the final rounds of the tournament.
