Performance pressure and expectations took a toll on her mental health and she couldn’t keep up with the pressures. She took a break from the sport citing mental health issues in the year 2021. After losing to Leylah Fernandez in the U.S. Open, she announced her decision to have an indefinite break. That was the start of a downfall in her WTA rankings.

Naomi Osaka’s pregnancy announcement earlier this year came as a surprise to tennis fans, prompting her to put her career on hold. With the arrival of her first child imminent, the Japanese star’s ranking on the WTA Tour is expected to experience a significant decline. Despite her lack of competitive play in recent months, Osaka has managed to remain in the top 100. However, this is expected to change soon.

Since her indefinite break began, she kept losing her points regularly but this sudden news of her being pregnant not only surprised her fans but everyone around. She is set to miss out from the sport at least till 2024. She was the finalist in last year’s Miami Open and lost to Iga Swiatek in straight sets. Now with missing out on both the Indian Wells and Miami Open, she will be losing a lot of points.

Fans believe in Naomi Osaka’s comeback

Naomi Osaka’s absence from the sport will push her out of top-300 according to the experts. This will become her first time since 2014 at such a low ranking on the WTA charts. Although personally, she’s having the best time of her life as she will be welcoming her first child, professionally she has to cover a lot.

Despite the anticipated decline in her ranking, Naomi Osaka remains determined to make a comeback on the court. She has been a dominant player in recent years, winning multiple Grand Slam titles with her exceptional performances. Although her absence will be felt by tennis fans, many are eagerly awaiting her return to the court.
