American tennis ace Naomi Osaka has reportedly given birth to a baby girl 2-3 days ago. This good news was disclosed by her boyfriend and rapper Cordae during one of his live shows. Further details have not been disclosed yet.
Earlier this year, Osaka, who lives in America but plays for Japan, announced through an Instagram post that she will not be participating in the 2023 Australian Open as she is pregnant. She further wrote that it will take her almost a year to recover from post-pregnancy issues and will most likely make a comeback in 2024 AO.
“I know that I have so much to look forward to in the future, one thing I’m looking forward to is for my kid to watch one of my matches and tell someone, “that’s my mom,” haha. 2023 will be a year that’ll be full of lessons for me and I hope I’ll see you guys in the start of the next one cause I’ll be at Aus 2024. Love you all infinitely,” she wrote in the post.
Osaka’s career has been full of controversy, starting with her 2018 win at the US Open against veteran player Serena Williams. Next, her not attending the press conference at the Roland Garros in 2021 and later being fined for it. She is known to be the flag bearer of initiating conversations around mental health in the lives of athletes. She has also been an advocate for mental health ever since. The Japanese has 4 Grand Slam titles under her name, two of the US Open and two AO.

Players who made a comeback post pregnancy
Naomi Osaka is set to make her comeback in 2024 at the Australian Open. Earlier she was on a mental health break, made a brief comeback, and then went on a maternity break. As much as fans are delighted and anticipating a great return from her, she isn’t the only women player who is going to hit the court after giving birth.
Former World No.3 Elina Svitolina announced her pregnancy back in May 2022 and gave birth on October 15th, 2022. She made a comeback this year through the Roland Garros, where she was exceptional and made it to the quarterfinals where she fell to Belarussian player Aryna Sabalenka.
Currently, Svitolina is playing at Wimbledon and gave an exceptional performance by defeating American icon Venus Williams. She has reached the quarterfinals and is set to face current World No.1 Iga Swiatek. One can say that being away from tennis for a year didn’t have any impact on her performance, given her exceptional gameplay.
Another player known to make a comeback after giving birth is the tennis legend Serena Williams. In 2017, Williams announced that she was pregnant. An incredible thing to be noted is that the veteran won the AO earlier that year, apparently when she was 8 weeks pregnant. She had to undergo a very complicated delivery due to her daughter’s dropping heart rate.
Nevertheless, she made a comeback in 2017 only, playing an exhibition match at the World Tennis Championship in Abu Dhabi. She lost to Jelena Ostapenko. In 2018 Wimbledon, she reached her 10th Wimbledon Finals but fell to German player Angelique Kerber. The same year she reached the US Open finals but had a controversy and lost to none other than Naomi Osaka.
Considering the great comebacks by such players, one can expect Naomi to also show great gameplay once she returns.
