The Doha Open is a WTA 1000 event, and its main rounds will begin tomorrow. The draw for the tournament has been revealed, and it packs a number of surprises for the fans. Iga Swiatek, Coco Gauff, Elena Rybakina ,and Ons Jabeur are the top four seeds of the 2024 Qatar Open. First things first, there are four wildcards in the Qatar Open, and Emma Raducanu is one of them
The Brit, who recently made her comeback to the court after a long injury, has not gotten the expected results in the few tournaments in which she has participated so far. As a result, she would want to change that in the Qatar Open. The other three wild card entries include Zeynep Sonmez, Anna Kalinskaya, and Paula Badosa.
Another major takeaway is that Naomi Osaka has once again been handed a tough draw. In the Abu Dhabi Open, Naomi would have faced top seed Elena Rybakina had she won her first match against Danielle Collins. Unfortunately, she suffered a straight-set loss in the first round itself, continuing her disappointing run on the 2024 tour. Like Emma Raducanu, Osaka also made her comeback only recently at the Brisbane International.
Iga Swiatek, Jelena Ostapenko, Ons Jabeur, Maria Sakkari, Qinwen Zheng, Elena Rybakina, Marketa Vondrousova and Coco Gauff are the seeded players who have been handed direct entry into the second round. World No. 1 Iga Swiatek, who is the top seed in this tournament, will definitely remain the favorite to win the Doha Open.
Naomi Osaka and Emma Raducanu handed tough draws in the tournament
Both Naomi Osaka and Emma Raducanu are in such a form that any draw will be considered to be difficult for them at this point. The latter will face Anhelina Kalinina in the first round. If she wins that match, she will go on to face Jelena Ostapenko in the second round, which will be a difficult job.
Naomi Osaka, on the other hand, faces tough opposition right from the first round. She will go head-to-head against Caroline Garcia in the first round. If she wins that match, her second-round matchup will be easy. However, she has a good chance of facing Ons Jabeur in the round of 16 if she makes it that far.
Osaka recently faced Caroline Garcia in the first round of the 2024 Australian Open, and she did not have a great outing there. Garcia ousted her 6-4, 7-6 (2), which was a humiliating defeat for the Japanese. It will be interesting to see whether the outcome this time is different.
