Naomi Osaka is finally making her much-anticipated comeback to the court after staying away from the sport for more than a year. The Japanese tennis player was pregnant with her first child with her boyfriend Cordae and decided to give preference to her family. They welcomed their daughter Shai in July 2023, and after a few months, Naomi finally started to train.

She is all recovered now and ready to fight back for her place in the WTA rankings. The 26-year-old will play in the Brisbane International 2023-24 first, which starts on December 31st, to get tournament-ready ahead of the 2024 Australian Open, which starts on January 14, 2024. Ahead of her comeback, Opta has released a stat that shows how good Naomi Osaka is and why fans have been waiting for her comeback for such a long time.

Without ever losing, Naomi Osaka is the player with the most Grand Slam finals played in the Open Era (Women’s and Men’s Singles included). She shares this record with Polish international Iga Swiatek, who is currently the World No. 1 in WTA rankings. This shows that the fans are going to witness a sensational battle between these two heavyweights, starting from the Australian Open 2024.

Osaka won four Grand Slam titles in the US Open and Australian Open in alternating years from 2018 to 2021. She won the US Open in 2018 and 2020 and the Australian Open in 2019 and 2021. Her performances in the French Open and the Wimbledon have been downright poor.

Iga Swiatek, on the other hand, dominates in the French Open and she has won three of her four Majors there. She won it in 2020, 2022 and 2023. Iga also won the US Open in 2022.

Naomi Osaka vs. Iga Swiatek: Head-to-Head record

Iga Swiatek and Naomi Osaka have only faced each other a total of two times and they share a win each. Swiatek and Osaka have good relations on and off the field. In an interview earlier this year, the Polish had said that she would love to face Naomi Osaka again.

I'd love to meet her again, as she was so nice to me when I was a much less experienced player

Considering all finals and not just Grand Slam events though, Iga Swiatek is way ahead of Naomi Osaka. Swiatek has won 17 finals in total and lost just five, while Osaka has won 17 and lost 5. However, this does not make the Japanese any less of a player.
