Japanese tennis ace and former World No.1 Naomi Osaka is preparing hard for her comeback to the tour after over a year and a half. As the 26-year-old’s comeback tournament (Brisbane International) nears, Osaka is increasing the intensity of her practice sessions. While she worked with Nick Kyrgios to better her serving skills, Osaka tested it through marksmanship skills.

Osaka’s preparations are in the last phase and the former World No.1 does not want to leave out any gaps, hence she is perfecting herself in every possible aspect of the game. The four-time Grand Slam champion tested her accuracy by shooting down a few targets she kept on the other side of the court.

Naomi Osaka eyes a memorable comeback in Brisbane

After staying away from the tennis court for almost fifteen months, Osaka is finally returning to where she belongs. The Japanese ace will be playing at the Brisbane International and will be hoping to start dominating the tour straightaway. Although Osaka has refrained from setting any unrealistic targets for herself, the expectations will be high as usual.

In the absence of Iga Swiatek and Coco Gauff, Osaka is expected to go deep into the tournament and regain her momentum before she enters the 2024 Australian Open to face the ultimate test. However, easier said than done, Osaka will have tough opponents in Aryna Sabalenka and Elena Rybakina. Nevertheless, the Japanese is excited about making a comeback through the WTA 500 event in Brisbane.

I am really excited about getting back out on court and competing. I always love starting my season in Brisbane and can’t wait to return. The Brisbane International is such a great tournament and will set me up for a brilliant comeback this summer.

Notably, in three attempts so far, Naomi Osaka has managed to go as deep as the semifinals at the WTA 500 tournament. While the Japanese could survive till only the third round in qualifiers in her maiden attempt in 2016, Osaka returned three years later to make it to the semifinals. In 2020 as well, she made it to the semis. Now, having spent enough time on the tour and hard court being her strength, Osaka will expect to make it to her maiden final here in Brisbane.
