Four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka is making progress in her quest to return to the Tour. Osaka, who recently gave birth to her first daughter Shai, has promised to be back in action by the 2024 Australia Open. The former world no.1 is already practicing on the court and is managing to beat at least Rui Hachimura for now.

The Japanese ace played a friendly match against the Los Angeles Lakers’ Hachimura who was also born in Japan in the mid-90s. Osaka shared a video wherein she can be seen practicing against Hachimura who seems to be having a tough time against the former World No.1.

While Hachimura was able to return the serve, he could not hold on to the rally for long enough as Osaka sealed the game in hardly three shots. The NBA star even lost his balance and crashed into the net while trying to return a shot. Meanwhile, Osaka burst into laughter. The tennis ace then trolled Hachimura as she captioned her post, “lil bro really thought he had it”.

The 25-year-old also recently revealed that she used to practice even when Naomi Osaka was pregnant. “Vids in my camera roll from when I was preggos lol,” Osaka wrote in a TikTok video that shows various clips of her training on different tennis courts.

Nevertheless, the former World No.1 looks determined to make a comeback now but it won’t be an easy task. Osaka has already dropped to 601 in the WTA rankings. The 25-year-old has lost almost all her points and it will deteriorate further as she will lose the points earned for reaching the Tokyo Open quarterfinals.

The 25-year-old will have an uphill task reclaiming the top spot. Although Osaka has won as many as four Grand Slams, she has not been the best after her title win at the 2021 Australian Open. Osaka’s trophy cabinet is also devoid of a French Open and a US Open title. It is to be seen if the 25-year-old comes back on the Tour to walk away with as many as Grand Slams possible.
