‘Negotiations are underway!’ Novak Djokovic gets an invitation to compete at a tennis tournament in Moscow

The Russia-Ukraine war has left a huge impact on the tennis world with players standing on a divided front. The ruling bodies, to start things, had permitted Russian athletes to continue competing in all the touranments provided they will compete without any flag. But Wimbledon’s recent ruling of banning Russian and Belarussian athletes looks a bit over the top.
Majority of players have condemned this decision taken by Wimbledon and have expresses their sympathy with the Russian players as they have to suffer despite not committing any crime. World No.1 Novak Djokovic was amongst the first player to have condmened Wimbledon’s ruling in public. Djokovic has time and again called the decision unjust and has called out AELTC for punishing Russian athletes unduly.
Recently, a high-ranking tennis official in Russia, Vladimir Kamelzon, said that the federation is planning on to organize a huge tennis tournament in Russia called the ‘Peace Cup’.

Kamelzon, in an interview with the Russian media gave details about the event and also revealed that they are planning on bringing Novak Djokovic to the tournament alonwiyh Belarussian, Chinese, Kazakh, Uzbek and Turkish athletes.
“The Tennis Federation of Russia and the city of Moscow are working out a program for the development of our sport in the near future. We are currently working on the Moscow Open Championship, which will probably be called the Capital Cup. We will invite players from Belarus, China, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkey, and other countries. Negotiations are underway with Novak Djokovic,” he said.
The exact dates of the tournament is not know but Kamelzon said that it would be hosted in summer. “The tournament will be played in the summer, and we will do our best to ensure that the conditions for all players are maximum,” he said.
On the court, Djokovic is currently in Madrid and will play Gael Monfils in the second round. He will then travel to Rome if permitted before defending his title at the French Open.
