Novak Djokovic defeated Karen Khachanov in the Serbia Open semi-finals to reach his first final of 2022 and his third final at Belgrade. Djokovic recovered from behind to overcome his Russian opponent 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 in front of his home crowd in Belgrade.

After being detained due to his Covid-19 immunisation status, Djokovic was unable to compete in the Australian Open. In February, he competed in the Dubai Tennis Championships, but was eliminated in the quarter-finals, and subsequently missed the US hard court swing due to his vaccination status. In his first match back on the tour, he was stunned by Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the Monte Carlo Masters earlier this month.

Nevertheless, Djokovic is playing in his third clay-court tournament of the season, following a tumultuous start to the year that began with his deportation from Australia in January. In Sunday’s final, the world number one will face Russian second seed Andrey Rublev or Italian Fabio Fognini.
