“My English is poor” Elena Rybakina shuts down reporter for asking her to condemn war and Vladimir Putin’s actions after Wimbledon triumph, Twitter reacts

Elena Rybakina with her 2022 Wimbledon trophy
Russian-born Kazakh Elena Rybakina scripted history at the All England Club by beating No.3 seed Ons Jabeur in the final of the 2022 Wimbledon Championships in three sets 3-6,6-2,6-2 to win her first major title. She also became the first player to win the Wimbledon title representing an Asian country and did so by dropping just two sets all fortnight.
To make things even spicier, Ryabkina, who was born in Russia and represented Russia in juniors, won the prestigious major in the year where Russian players were banned from the tournament. The sole purpose for banning Russian athletes was to take a stand against the Russian atrocities against Ukraine but here, the Wimbledon champion herself is of Russian origin, despite being a Kazakh lives in Russia and pays taxes there too.
But Rybakina had made it clear several times that she is now a Kazakh citizen and has no links with Russia. Despite that, some journalists still questioned her about her stand in the current Russia-Ukraine war after her Wimbledon win. This was uncalled for as Rybakina had many times answered the same question again and again.
When asked whether she condemns Russian President Vladimir Putin’s actions, Rybakina answered that her English isn’t that good so she doesn’t understand the question fully. She said that she didn’t choose where she was born and currently is very loyal to Kazakhstan.
“Sorry, my English is not the greatest. I didn’t understand the second part of the question. From my side, I can only say that I’m representing Kazakhstan. I didn’t choose where I was born. People believed in me. Kazakhstan supported me so much. Even today I had so much support. I saw the flags. So I don’t know how to answer these questions,” she said.
People upset with the low level of questions directed toward Elena Rybakina

Fans on social media were very angry with the low level of journalism shown by British media and slammed them for ruining Rybakina’s moment.
