The Australian star Nick Kyrgios got no chill as he hits back at Tracy Austin for his comments targeted at his plans of early retirement. For the uninitiated, Kyrgios made a statement last week that he will probably be retiring before 33 years of age. To this, Former American World No.1 Tracy Austin commented, “I kind of find it sad you’re playing a professional sport & you just don’t absolutely love it. You don’t drink it up. You want to feel like you’re lucky to be out there.”

Kyrgios on Twitter gave a reply to Austin’s comment, “Why am I lucky to be out there? I worked and I put myself in that position, there wasn’t any luck involved. Some people play for different things, we aren’t all tennis nuts, some of us have a little more of an impact than that (laughing emoji).”

As expected, tennis Twitter is on two sides of Kyrgios’ comments. While some stood with Kyrgios and opined that Austin’s comments were unnecessary, another part of the fans called Kyrgios lucky enough to have the right physique and the natural talent that got him here without putting much effort as the rest of the players or had to get through.

The knee injury that occurred at the start of the year has sidelined the Australian World No.35 Nick Kyrgios for all the major competitions this year. After skipping the Australian Open and French Open, he tried to make a comeback in the grass season, but his only match of the year ended in a loss to Chinese unseeded player Yibing Wu in straight sets.

The Stuttgart Open is the tournament where he tried to kick off the grass court season. But following the opening round exit, Kyrgios decided to withdraw from Wimbledon where he was the runner-up the previous year. With Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic fighting for all the important titles on top, it will be interesting to see how Kyrgios can cope once he makes a return.

It is still not known when the Australian box office player is back on the tour, but the tennis world is expecting him to be back for the North hard court swing and the US Open later this year.
