Australian World No.22 Nick Kyrgios is yet again making headlines. This time it is for blaming the ATP tour’s schedule that does not suit Australians. As reported by We love Tennis, The Australian sent out a message after losing the first doubles match in the ATP finals with compatriot Thanasi Kokkinakis against Koolhof–Skupski pair (7−6, 6–7, 5–10).

Translated via Google, “For us Australians, the travel conditions are not the best. We only spend two months at home, the rest of the world can spend six. My energy levels are very low. I would love to see how far we can go here, but I can’t deny that I can’t wait to get home

The message also included how good a pair he and Kokkinakis make despite not getting enough match practice. Kyrgios had to fly almost in the last moment to Turin from Mexico where he was playing an exhibition with Cameron Norrie.

In his words, “Thanasi and I are an unexpected pair compared to the others. We prioritize the individual, but we make a really good pair and we don’t need too much pre-training. My physical condition is not ideal, but we could have won today“,

Nick Kyrgios had a great 2022 season having shared the Wimbledon center court in the finals against the Serbian World No.8 Novak Djokovic despite losing it in 4 sets. He also won his maiden Grand Slam tournament this year with Thanasi Kokkinakis in the Australian Open doubles. He was ranked outside the top 100 in January this year but climbed back inside top-30.

The Australian superstar was looking in great shape at the US Open this year but his dream run in which he overcame the defending champion Daniil Medvedev was shattered by another Russian Karen Khachanov in a 5-set-thriller in the quarter-finals. The Australian was at least expected to be in the finals after some master class serving throughout the tournament but one off day cost him a great chance.

The Australian has qualified with Thanasi Kokkinakis as the 8th seed for playing doubles in the ATP finals, in Turin. This is the first time he has qualified for the ATP finals in any category. If the Australian can keep his head straight and focus on his game on the court, we might see him playing in ATP finals singles shortly.
