Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios who once did not like Novak Djokovic is now a fan of the Serbian for multiple reasons. While Kyrgios has heaped praise on Djokovic for his fitness and zeal at the age of 37 and even claimed that he would eat Pete Sampras alive had they played against each other now, this time he has lauded the 24-time Grand Slam champion for his power shots.

As Novak Djokovic avoided an upset in his opening-round match at the 2024 Australian Open, Kyrgios was in awe of his power shots. Such was the impression that he even went on to call Djokovic the best-ever athlete of all time.

Kyrgios, while sitting in the commentary box for Eurosport looked in awe of the 37-year-old. The Australian said that with such fitness he can even play in the 40s.

Nick Kyrgios claims everyone wants to take Novak Djokovic down

Nick Kyrgios talked about the challenges a player like Novak Djokovic faces. The Australian claimed that every time Djokovic steps onto the court, his opponents try to take him down. Kyrgios then heaped praise on the 37-year-old for rising to the occasion every single time.

When you've achieved so much and become an icon in the sport, everyone wants you, they wanna take you down and they play their best tennis. So every single time Novak Djokovic goes out onto the court, it's not easy for him. That's even more credit to him.

The Australian ace also highlighted the fact that how Djokovic wins even when he is not at his best. Notably, Djokovic dropped a set against Dino Prizmic in his first match. However, the Serbian was quick to make a comeback as he won the next two sets and eventually the match.

The 37-year-old is defending his crown in Melbourne and is expected to at least reach the final. Djokovic faces Alexei Popyrin in the second round.
