Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios has once again come into the limelight of things for speaking his mind and presenting a controversial point of view on his social media handle. The World No.192 is known for his particularly bold and straightforward approach and has never shied away from expressing his opinion.
The 2022 Wimbledon finalist recently compared a generation of athletes as he talked about the basketball legend, Lebron James and how he would average around 50 points in an older era of the NBA (National Basketball Association) due to technological advancements in sports.
Speaking about this further, the Australian mentioned in his X handle:
Bro if you put Lebron in an older era the dude averages about 50 points a game. Athletes are just better now. That’s now is goes unfortunately.
The Australian recently began a feud against the former German tennis legend, Boris Becker, as he stated how players of the older tennis era would not fare well due to the changing pace of the game. While he acknowledged that specific players like Becker had a slower game back then, he also concluded by saying that such players would not be able to adapt to the fast-natured game played in these times.
Taking this conversation in the context of basketball, the tennis star stated how Lebron James would be much more dominant in an earlier era of the NBA. He also put the 24-time Grand Slam champion, Novak Djokovic, ahead of the iconic tennis legends, Pete Sampras and Boris Becker justifying that the older players could not have handled the fast-paced nature of the game.
Boris Becker ended the social media battle with Nick Kyrgios
The statements made by the Australian about the slow nature of the game in past were not well received by the 6 time Grand Slam champion. In response, Becker questioned the credibility of Nick Kyrgios asking how he is so confidently comparing generations of tennis players without having won a single Grand Slam title in his career.
Things took an ugly turn as the Australian resorted to attacking the German former World No.1 in a personal manner taking a sly dig at his time in prison.
However, things have calmed down between the two as the newly appointed coach of Holger Rune ended their argument, stating that he is hopeful to see him make a comeback and use his words and potential on the tennis court rather than on social media.
