Nick Kyrgios confirms he will be taking another break from tennis

World No. 68 Nick Kyrgios has been a rollercoaster of a season so far. With the Australian still looking for his first title since 2019, he is yet to reach a final this season but that hasn’t stopped him from making his way into the highlight reels of the season. The Australian despite a bout with covid that delayed the start of the season for him could not hold him back from winning the 2022 Australian Open Doubles title with childhood friend and compatriot Thanasi Kokkinakis. He did not play for a month after winning the major.
He returned at the Sunshine Double, reaching the quarter-finals in Indian Wells before making a 4th round exit in Miami. In both the tournaments, he paid heavy fines for improper conduct on the court. He then played just one claycourt event in Houston reaching the semis there before taking another break to return directly for the Grass season. He made it to the semis in Stuttgart with Andy Murray stopping him from reaching the finals.

Kyrgios has often spoken about his lack of motivation to return to the tennis court and taking breaks at will with no regard for his ranking or his form. While one can hope he has a full season going ahead with grass events followed by the hardcourt season, the Australian however dropped a bombshell on the fans after his first-round win in Halle where he defeated local lad Daniel Altmaier 6-3, 7-5.
“Yeah probably, I just want to be happy with myself first. That’s the most important thing. Just go out there, have fun and when I play I want to give people a show,” said Kyrgios during his on-court interview after advancing into the second round where he will take on World No. 6 and second seed Stefanos Tsitsipas.
