Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios just had one of the most successful years of his career. The 27-year-old performed way better than expectations in the 2022 season. Making an appearance at the final of Wimbledon was the biggest highlight of his year.
World No. 22, Kyrgios has given the credit for this turnaround to her girlfriend Costeen Hatzi. Kyrgios agreed it would be fair to recognize her as the ‘secret weapon’ behind his 2022 ascendance. Kyrgios believes happiness off the court has helped him on the court.
“It’s been a very successful year, not only on the tennis court but just in general. I’m feeling really, really good about everything and just enjoying life,” said the 27-year-old, as reported by the Daily Mail. “And meeting Costeen was probably my favorite moment, probably the best thing that’s happened to me – and the year I’ve had as a highly motivated and highly pushed player, has been because of her,” Kyrgios credited Hatzi for his success.
Earlier, Costeen Hatzi talked about Kyrgios’ performance in the season but refused to take any credit for his success. “He’s an amazing player, I can’t take credit for his performances, he is an amazing tennis player anyway” Hatzi had said.

The 27-year-old Nick Kyrgios was one of the most successful players on the tour this season. Kyrgios’ biggest highlight was his final appearance at Wimbledon this year where he met Serbian star, Novak Djokovic. Though Kyrgios eventually lost to the 21-time major champion, he gave the Serb a tough fight.
Other achievements of the Aussie this year include the doubles title at the Australian Open in January and getting back to the top 20 of the rankings. This breakthrough performance will give a huge boost to Kyrgios in the upcoming season. Kyrgios has set his eyes on the Australian Open at home.
Kyrgios will be participating in the United Cup doubles event starting in the last week of December. The event will act as a warm-up for the Aussie going into the first Open of the season. Kyrgios will be hoping to make the upcoming season even greater than the last one by winning a singles major.
