The wonder boy in the tennis world for the last 18 months has been Carlos Alcaraz. With multiple Masters and two Grand Slam titles, he is proving why he is number 1 just at the age of 20. However, he is in the headlines for a very unlike Alcaraz thing. Getting frustrated and smashing rackets is not an Alcaraz routine.

At the Canadian Open, fans saw a very rare sight of him getting angry and throwing his equipment. He was playing Tommy Paul in the quarter-finals and the match wasn’t going the way of Alcaraz.

The young Spaniard lost the first set against the American and was understandably frustrated. His reason for frustration was clear, as he was missing shots he would otherwise make. Most call Alcaraz the next Rafael Nadal. However, this act of throwing the racket was something Nadal would never do, and it was quite surprising for the fans. Alcaraz escaped a code violation though.

Many condemned Alcaraz and the umpire for not issuing a code violation for that, but Aussie superstar Nick Kyrgios supported the World No. 1.

Who the fu*k cares. The dude is gonna be carrying the tennis load for the next decade.. good on him for showing he is human. Frustrated not playing up to standards. Also let’s start giving codes to umpires.

Kyrgios clearly said that he would like umpires to look at these situations differently. He also said that Alcaraz will rule the tennis world in the next decade and in this moment of fury, he just proved that he is human.

Social media chase Carlos Alcaraz for his actions in Toronto

Mixed reactions came on Alcaraz’s actions in Toronto. Many feel that he is finally feeling the pressure of the tour and he needs to learn how to control his emotions. Others are on the Spaniard’s side, saying that as he just threw the racket and there was no damage on it whatsoever, he hasn’t broken any code. A few also said that the young player has been burdened by a lot of expectations and is now feeling the heat.

The meltdown eventually resulted in Alcaraz losing the match in three sets. The final scoreline read 6-3, 4-6, 6-3. He bows out of the Canadian Open as he would hope for a better performance in Cincinnati. He had already played a tough 3-setter against Hubert Hurkacz yesterday and was struggling physically at the end. The failure of shots against Paul could have had a lot to do with him not feeling physically right. The Spaniard would want to solve that as he moves to defend his US Open title.
