Nick Kyrgios‘ relationship with 23-time Grand Slam title Champion Novak Djokovic was anything but frosty before their clash at the Wimbledon Final last year. However, it now seems that the maverick Aussie doesn’t spare a single opportunity to lavish effusive praise on the Serb.
In a recent interview, the 28-year-old described Novak Djokovic as a ‘real legend’ and expressed true admiration for his resilience and tenacity, which have been a hallmark of Djokovic’s career for over a decade and a half.
Nick Kyrgios was recently featured in the series Talking Heads, where he spoke exclusively to Alastair Campbell. When asked to describe Novak Djokovic in a single word, World No. 33 replied, “I would say the word has changed maybe six times during the time I have known him. But right now, the word is legend. He’s a real legend of the game. What I like about Novak is that he deals with a lot of sh*t but just keeps going.”
Furthermore, Kyrgios pointed out that Djokovic has a large and divided fan base. He said that Djokovic sometimes doesn’t know where he can play or what tournament he will be in, but he somehow manages and continues to compete at a high level.
“That’s a cool thing,” Kyrgios said. He went on to add that he is appreciative of the manner in which World No. 2 has learned to deal with a barrage of people’s opinions coming at him thick and fast.
Kyrgios’ comments are a significant departure from his previous views on Djokovic. In the past, the tennis professional has been critical of Djokovic’s on-court behavior and his off-court persona. With that being said, now it seems like Kyrgios has come to appreciate Djokovic’s mental toughness and his ability to overcome adversity.
Kyrgios Reverses GOAT Claim, Now Says Federer is the Greatest

True to his erratic nature, the swashbuckling Australian made a complete U-turn in his opinion of who deserves the coveted GOAT tag in tennis. It wasn’t that long ago when Nick Kyrgios said that he had nothing left to prove to anyone after losing the 2022 Wimbledon final to ‘GOAT’ Novak Djokovic.
When asked by Alastair Campbell to describe 20-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer in a single word, Kyrgios stuck to a single word and described him as “GOAT.” He went on to say that Federer is “one of a kind” and that his playing style is “simply pure.”
The game of tennis may see many new mercurial faces, but few will be like Nick Kyrgios. He continues to surprise the tennis world with his demeanor, spicy comments, and unorthodox gameplay. Whether you love him or hate him, there’s no denying that Kyrgios is one of the most entertaining and unpredictable players on the Tour.
