This is not the first time Kyrgios has shed light on his early retirement. He had stated vague remarks about the longevity of his career during the US Open. He had even claimed that it sometimes becomes tough to be away from family and miss the special moments which is the hardest part of the job. He had spoken about staying at home with his family leading a relaxed and comfortable life.

He had said “Next week we’re going home. But with three more matches potentially, then we never have to play tennis again. I’m struggling with it, to be honest. I think a big part of me would love to just be home with my girlfriend and see our families and have that comfortable type of lifestyle. But this is just what I do. It’s fun at times obviously going to new places, meeting new people, and seeing the world. But it’s hard and doesn’t do it justice. You miss crucial moments of life.

He choose not to play at the Laver Cup and opted to withdraw from the tournament citing the reason for spending quality time with his family and girlfriend. Kyrgios withdrew from the Japan Open citing a knee injury issue that has amplified due to overburden and needs adequate rest. He will be playing next at the Swiss Indoors in Basel which will start on 24th October.
