The 2022 Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic‘s friendship with Nick Kyrgios has been in the headlines after their banter at Wimbledon where they started their off-court camaraderie over an invite for drinks and dinner. Though after the loss in the Wimbledon finals, which some thought might put an end to their newly started friendship, rather it strengthened their bond. They both shared a funny banter talking about their tennis skills.
The Aussie played in his first-ever finals in the Grand Slam singles event at Wimbledon after receiving a walkover in the semifinals due to Rafael Nadal’s withdrawal citing an injury. After his spectacular performance in Wimbledon followed by his triumph at Citi Open and a fourth-round exit at the US Open, he had an abrupt ending to his season due to his knee injury that had been bothering him for a while.
Kyrgios shared a video on his Instagram from one of his practice sessions where he bounced the ball multiple times and even took a lot of time to serve. It was quite similar to the 21-time Grand Slam winner’s way during service games. The Serb was quick to respond and sportingly replied “Is that my serve preparation” for mimicking him. To this, the Aussie player had a good laugh before hilariously criticizing his speed of serve. Krygios said “Hahahaha. That’s so funny, yours is worse. Mate Tuo (you) take 472833728 hours to serve.“
Djokovic even did not budge from the banter and funnily attacked his service game as well. The Wimbledon winner said “Hahahahah true. Sometimes not always. Need to work on your supersonic speed Nick Kyrgios,”. The conversation that happened on Kyrgios‘ personal DM on Instagram was shared by the Australian Open doubles champion as he shared a screenshot admitting that he never thought something of this sort could happen.
Novak Djokovic failed to defend his title at the 2022 Paris Masters
Djokovic reached back-to-back three finals and was looking for his third ATP consecutive title in Bercy. But he was defeated by the 19-year-old Holger Rune in three sets in 2hours and 32 minutes of play despite the Serbian winning the first set. There were some chances that could have awarded him the win but he failed to execute them as he admitted during his post-match interview.
The loss also ended Novak Djokovic‘s 13-match winning streak after winning at the Tel Aviv Open and at the Astana Open. He looked flawless in his performances and had dropped only one set that came in the semifinals at the Paris Masters against Stefanos Tsitsipas. Unable to defend his title, he will lose the crucial 1000 rankings points and see a drop in his overall rankings. This year has been a tough year for the 9-time Australian Open champion due to his unvaccinated status and missing out on two major tournaments.
