Nick Kyrgios handed the biggest fine at Wimbledon for his antics during round 1 win over Paul Jubb

Nick Kyrgios

World No. 45 Nick Kyrgios is always at the centre of drama at possibly every event that he plays. Apart from his brilliant talent and skills that are on display on the court, his behaviour and outbursts are often taking the center stage over his tennis and result in his game being overshadowed by his mannerisms.

A similar tale was on display during the first-round match at the 2022 Wimbledon Championships when Kyrgios took on British player Paul Jubb on Court 3. With Jubb getting the support from the home crowd, Nick was on the receiving end of some abuses and racial slurs as claimed by the Australian. These incidents along with some dodgy calls by the chair umpire and the linespersons had Nick frustrated and his actions resulted in him being slapped with a big fine.

Nick admitted in his post-match press conference to spitting in the direction of fans that had abused him racially. “Of one of the people disrespecting me, yes. I would not be doing that to someone who was supporting me. I’ve been dealing with hate and negativity for a long time, so I don’t feel like I owed that person anything. He literally came to the match to not even support anyone really, just to stir up disrespect. That’s fine, but if I give it back to you, that’s just how it is,” said Nick in the press conference.

As a result of his actions, in the first fines released by the Grand Slam for different players and their actions, Kyrgios has been handed a fine of £8,211($10,000), the biggest in the tournament so far. In total, 13 players have been fined for different incidents in the first four days with Nick fined the largest sum.
