Former Australian tennis ace Wally Masur feels now is the best time for Nick Kyrgios to win a Grand Slam title as the big four of tennis has been dismantled. The former Davis Cup captain claimed that Kyrgios who has shown that he possesses the ability to win a major title, should look to return on the tour as early as possible and challenge the youngsters.
It is worth mentioning that Nick Kyrgios has been out of the tour for over eight months now. While a knee surgery kept him out of action for a significant time, the Australian had to cancel his comeback plan at Wimbledon due to wrist surgery. Nevertheless, Kyrgios is in the last phase of rehabilitation and has started practicing.
Pointing to the same fact, Masur said that as the big four of tennis has been dismantled with Roger Federer retiring and Andy Murray and Rafael Nadal struggling with injuries, Nick Kyrgios stands a great chance at winning Grand Slam titles.
I honestly don't know (what his plans are). I've heard that he's been training and doing rehab in Canberra. Roger [Federer] has retired, Rafa [Nadal] is a little busted and Andy [Murray] is playing with one hip, so the big four have been pretty much dismantled, although Novak [Djokovic] is obviously still there, so there are opportunities [for Kyrgios to come back and win big events].Masur said via The Daily Mail.
Wally Masur feels Nick Kyrgios is crucial for world tennis
The former Australian ace also talked about the importance of players like Nick Kyrgios on the tour. While heaping praise on the fellow Australian, Wally Masur claimed that Kyrgios has one of the best serves on the tour and thus he stands a chance to challenge the best players. Masur claimed that world tennis needs Kyrgios.
He said:
Can Nick come back and play a part in all this? Absolutely, because anyone who serves like he does is always competitive. He might even have the best serve in the game right now…He's pretty crucial for Australian and world tennis, so it would be good to have him back.
Masur also shared a suggestion for Kyrgios saying that the Australian needs to look after his body and not lose motivation if he aims to win a title. Notably, Kyrgios has faced issues with his body. The Australian has undergone countless surgeries and hence has missed out on a lot of action. Nevertheless, Kyrgios seems to be recovering well and might even feature at the year’s first Grand Slam at his home.
