Nick Kyrgios finishes inside the Top-25 rankings for the first time since 2017 as the Australian brings down the curtain to his season. Kyrgios was scheduled for a busy October but an untimely injury meant the Australian finished his season at the Japan Open in Tokyo.

Having started the season outside Top-100, Kyrgios has made good ground after nearly winning his first singles major at the 2022 Wimbledon where he finished as the runner-up. While he did not receive any ranking points for it, it still shows that he was able to produce good results as he won his first Tour title since 2019 in Washington this year.

While Kyrgios put in some good performances this year, he was vocal about his time away from home. He missed the entire clay season to be with his ailing parents and rushed to their side as soon as the Grass season finished with Wimbledon. He missed this year’s French Open to be with his family and girlfriend and he looks forward to sticking to the plan this year as well.

“I’ll put myself into a position to play an event like that, a special event. We’ll see. If my body is right and it’s the right preparation, I’ll go ahead with it. I’m not going to play anymore [before Christmas]. I don’t want to sacrifice time at home.

“If I play more I don’t have that time at home, especially with the way my mum is progressing, being here with my girlfriend at home in Sydney. I don’t want to give up too much time on the road. Five or six months on the road is more than enough for me,” said Kyrgios as reported by The Age.

Kyrgios is however yet to officially end his season. Kyrgios won the 2022 Australian Open with compatriot and childhood friend Thanasi Kokkinakis and added two more Tour titles during the season. His win in Washington meant he won both the singles and doubles title at the ATP-500 event.

These results were enough to guarantee the Australians a spot in the 2022 ATP Finals that begin in Turin on 13th November. It will be the debut at the year-end championships for both Australians in any discipline and they will look to make the most of it. A good result can boost Kyrgios‘ year-end ranking which is currently at 11th in doubles.
