The United States Women’s team has been in the news for the last couple of days for their surprise knockout in the ongoing Women’s FIFA World Cup organized in Australia and New Zealand.
This marked the USWNT‘s first finish outside the top three in the history of the World Cup. As expected, the shocking loss came with abundant negative reactions from fans worldwide. Fans are bashing the players all over social media and criticizing their tactics that led to a loss against a lowly-ranked Swedish side.
Amidst all the drama that has been going on, another video has popped up on the Internet that features USWNT star player Megan Rapinoe getting acquainted with a small fan. In an event show, a boy asked her for an autograph on a football, to which Megan reacted very abruptly. Signing the ball without even paying attention to the small kid and proving her arrogance, which has led to famous journalist Piers Morgan getting involved in the issue.
Piers Morgan posted the video on his Twitter with the caption, “Doesn’t even look at him. Diabolical arrogance.” To this, Australian tennis star, Nick Kyrgios came in support of Morgan as well.
He retweeted the video with the caption, “Hahahahahaha one thing me and Piers agree on”. This small video of Rapinoe acting like a heartless person had flooded the Internet with hate comments against her and in turn, has also affected other USWNT players.
How Megan and Co. were criticized after their World Cup exit?
Nobody would have expected the US Women’s Team to be heading home so early in the competition. Provided that the team has never in their history finished lower than a Bronze medal, and to see that same lot lose against a side who were now even favorites to make it out of the group stage.
Taking nothing away from Sweden, who gave it their all on the pitch in the entire 120+ minutes, a lot of questions will be pointed towards the star American team, who were not up to the mark on the day.
Football is just like any other sport, where any single team on a given day can win or lose, but the USWNT’s performance in the ongoing FIFA World Cup has been quite lacklustre. They have shown a lack of prowess, and despite being the most expensive team in the tournament, they have failed to make it to the quarterfinals.
