Nick Kyrgios lands fresh jab at enemy No.1 Stefanos Tsitsipas, claims the Greek has been upset since losing to him
Stefanos Tsitsipas and Nick Kyrgios
Australian No.1 singles player Nick Kyrgios has started another round of spar with rival Stefanos Tsitsipas after suggesting in an Instagram Q&A session that he never intended to fight with the Greek player and it was in fact Tsitsipas who has just been upset since he lost to Kyrgios.
Recently, Tsitsipas had also asked Kyrgios for a revenge match in a social media post. Kyrgios, the 2022 Wimbledon finalist defeated Tsitsipas in the third round of the 2022 Wimbledon Championship in a high-drama game as both the players ended up in a verbal battle during the game. Kyrgios defeated Stef after being a set down to win the game and had a cold handshake at the net after the match ended.
Tsitsipas was recently vacationing in Greece when he invited Kyrgios to come down to Costa Navarino for a rematch challenge but put forth a condition that there would be no talking this time which shows that Tsitsipas clearly hasn’t forgotten the defeat. He said: “Mr. Kyrgios please come to Costa Navarino. I’d like a revenge match. But no talking this time.“
Mark Philippoussis thinks Stefanos Tsitsipas holds tennis ability edge over Nick Kyrgios
Former Australian tennis player, Mark Philippoussis, who has a Greek background, spoke about the controversial matchup recently and backed Tsitsipas to win it if it was purely tennis vs tennis.
He said that the Greek has to find a way to manage it and focus on himself because such a thing will happen again and Kyrgios needs a distraction because it helps him.
“He has to find a way to manage it and focus on himself because it will happen again. He will expect it to happen again, because if it was tennis vs tennis, Tsitsipas would win every time. That’s why Kyrgios needs the distraction, it helps him,” Philippoussis said.
Philippoussis added that despite being mentally very strong, Tsitsipas lost his temper and will learn a lot from the game. He said that he will have to stay focused in these kind of games and let his tennis do the talking.
“Stefanos is mentally strong, he just lost his temper. He will learn a lot from this game and it will be a blessing for him in the future. He’s going to have to find a way to stay focused on himself because he’s going to play important matches against Nick in the future. He will have to find a way and I don’t think something like that would happen again. Despite the constant tiff between them, he had opportunities in the fourth set and if he would have won, he probably win’s the fifth too,” he said.
