Nick Kyrgios has never shied away from putting forth his opinions. This has landed him in trouble several times, but the Aussie never backs away. Following the same path, he gave a big statement while appearing on Mike Tyson‘s podcast, ‘Hotboxin’ w/ Mike Tyson.’
Reminiscing the 2022 Wimbledon, where Kyrgios showcased phenomenal grit and strength, he talked about how it would have been if he had won the tournament. Managing to reach the finals, he was to face Serbian legend Novak Djokovic. Unfortunately, he fell short to the Serb and lost the match in 4 sets.
Talking about that phase, Kyrgios acknowledged Djokovic being a favorite for the win. He went on to state, “I could feel that everyone kind of wanted me to win, especially me winning a Wimbledon would have been the biggest f*** you to any sort of establishment.“
The conversation was in regard to Kyrgios receiving too much hate for his aggressive play on the court, and people trying to paint him as a ‘villain‘. Tyson, who is a former boxer, agreed with Kyrgios and gave his wise words. The American legend advised, “Listen, do not be discouraged by that.” He shared how he faced a similar experience when he was a professional boxer.
Nick Kyrgios thinks Novak Djokovic does not get enough credit
Kyrgios has been out of the game for almost the entirety of this season. The Australian had to withdraw from Wimbledon and the US Open this year owing to a wrist issue. Making an appearance after what seemed like a very long time, the Aussie calls Novak Djokovic the finest in the world and lavishes praise on the Serb.

Nick talked about the ‘GOAT’ debate on Tyson’s podcast, which was recorded before the 2023 US Open. “I don’t think he gets the credit he deserves enough, he’s almost been on tour for nearly 20 years as well,” he said.
Despite being a major Roger Federer fan, Nick is not afraid to give Novak the respect he deserves. After a stunning win at the US Open, Novak Djokovic is currently ranked first in the men’s rankings. With the victory, he joined Margaret Court as the only person to have won 24 single Grand Slam titles.
