Last year’s Wimbledon runners-up Nick Kyrgios had been out for a long time since making his appearance at the ATP World Tour Finals missing almost all the major tournaments in the first half of the year. He made his return to tennis at the Stuttgart Open which took place last month getting knocked out by Wu Yibing right in the very first round.
The 28-year-old has barely played more than two sets this year and with the Wimbledon starting; the media reached out to him asking about his fitness and if his body can match the amount of determination needed to play five-set tennis. He replied, “Yeah, I still think there’s some question marks, for sure. I mean, obviously, five-set tennis is a completely different base altogether. I look at my preparations last year coming in, I probably had the most ideal preparation possible. It couldn’t be any different this year.”
The Aussie also mentioned that he has worked extremely hard for the last six months just to maintain his fitness so that he could get back on the court as soon as possible. He also credited the players who have helped him to become game-ready this week, and he finally feels that his body is going great. Talking about the fitness scare, Kyrgios said, “I’m going to take it one day at a time. I’m not going to look forward and put unfair expectations on myself. I’m just going to try to do everything I can, prepare, go out there, and play some good tennis.”
How will Nick Kyrgios fare at the upcoming Wimbledon?

Kyrgios has been badly out of form being out of the court for more than six months and he has already mentioned that his preparations for this year’s Wimbledon are not as strong as it was for the last year. Last year Kyrgios performed magnificently well to make it to the finals, losing to Novak Djokovic on four sets, but this year it would mean a lot to him even if he manages to go past the first two rounds.
The Australian has always been a class player on the grass and also mentioned last year ahead of the 2022 Wimbledon Championships that he is the best grass player in the world. But things don’t seem very great at the moment for the 28-year-old as he starts his conquest on Monday against David Goffin in the first round and it won’t be a surprise if the Belgian manages to shock the World No. 33.
