Nick Kyrgios has announced his return to the Laver Cup, as Team World seek their second title later this year. The Australian pulled out of John McEnroe’s winning team this year owing to an injury. Nick Kyrgios will join the likes of Felix Auger Aliassime, Frances Tiafoe and Taylor Fritz in Team World.

Nick Kyrgios competed at the 2021 Laver Cup, where he lost in the Doubles encounter against Stefanos Tsitsipas and Andrey Rublev. The 2022 Wimbledon runner-up has competed in four editions of the Laver Cup in 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2021. He was delighted to join the Team World, and expressed his eagerness to get going.

“I’m pumped to be a part of Team World. As I’ve said many times before, a kid from Canberra representing the world, it’s pretty special and I’m ready to go to battle,” said Kyrgios.

Team McEnroe was also excited to announce the Australian’s return, describing him as one of the most talented players on the tour. “Nick is one of the most talented guys on tour. We saw the level of tennis he’s capable of last year at Wimbledon and we’re all looking forward to seeing him on the court again soon. He brings great energy and passion. I’m excited to have him back on the team in Vancouver,” Team McEnroe released a statement.

Nick Kyrgios has been on the losing side of the Laver Cup on four occasions. However, he finally breath a sigh of relief when Team World finally got themselves on the board last year. He backs his team to put on a similar performance this year, and defend their title.

he fact that Team World finally got one on the board is amazing. I’ve been a part of the team four times and we came up short after being close so many times. The fact that now we know we can do it is a special thing. Hopefully, I can just add to that team, not change the spirit up too much, just add some positive vibes and see if we can get it done again,” said Kyrgios.

Nick Kyrgios has suffered a big injury setback in 2023, as he aggravated his knee injury in an exhibition match against Novak Djokovic in January. This meant that he missed the 2023 Australian Open, and remains out of action for the time being. Nick Kyrgios has revealed that he is taking his injury day by day, as fans are eagerly awaiting for his return.
