Australian Nick Kyrgios, who enjoyed his best run at the Grand Slams last year, finishing runner-up at Wimbledon 2022 and reaching the quarterfinals of the US Open, feels that he has nothing left to prove to anyone.
A series of injury-related setbacks since the end of last year have put a brake on the Aussie’s impressive form. However, Nick Kyrgios continued to exhibit his trademark swagger yet again, nonchalantly remarking that nothing is left for him to prove.
“I don’t think I’ve got anything left to prove in my career to be honest. I’ve beaten some amazing players, won some really big tournaments, [made the] final of a Grand Slam, won a doubles Grand Slam. I feel like now, this is why you work. So you can actually have fun and just enjoy it,” Nick Kyrgios said in an exclusive interview with ATPTour.com.
The 28-year-old, known as much for his fiery temper as for his trick shots, underarm serves, and tweeners did achieve a fair level of rhythm and consistency in 2022. He started the year in remarkable fashion, winning the Australian Open doubles title with compatriot Thanasi Kokkinakis.
Few can dispute the fact that Nick Kyrgios is a terrific entertainer on and off the court. However, his statement that he has nothing left to prove seems odd. Kyrgios does indeed boast of an impressive record against top players like Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Daniil Medvedev, and Stefanos Tsitsipas, and has bagged four ATP 500 and three ATP 250 titles in his career to date. But there’s still a lot of gas left in him to build on his impressive showing last year.
