Australian player Nick Kyrgios continues to invite controversy as he became the subject of slander on social media for downplaying the ATP top 10’s contribution to the sport, while never having entered the top 10 himself.
In a post uploaded on Twitter, the social media following numbers of the current ATP top – 10 were listed, with Serbian legend Novak Djokovic in the clear lead with 32 million followers. Second on the list is World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz with nearly 5 million followers. Top-10 mainstays such as Stefanos Tsitsipas and Daniil Medvedev follow in the list.
Reacting to the list, Kyrgios responded with “lol”, hinting at his social media presence which dwarfed that of most players on the list. With 4.1 followers on Instagram alone, Kyrgios would likely feature third on the list – assuming he was a top–10 player.
On being told that the list only features top 10 players, Kyrgios responded saying that he finds it funny that he has brought more to the sport than most of the top 10 players have.
Twitter users berated Nick Kyrgios for downplaying the contributions of the ATP’s top 10

Fans on Twitter were quick to troll Kyrgios for his comment, with some saying that he has attracted visitors only to his drama, rather than his game.
Ranked World No 35 now, owing to his delayed absence from the tour, Nick Kyrgios will likely drop out of the top 100 by the time he makes his comeback on the tour. He has played only one match on tour this year, at the Stuttgart Open, losing to Chinese player Wu Yibing. His season this year stands in stark contrast to his career-best 2022, where he made the Wimbledon finals.
It remains to be seen how and when the mercurial tennis player will stage his comeback onto the tour. It goes without saying that despite his antics, the tour misses him.
