Australian tennis ace Nick Kyrgios has contradicted himself in his retirement talks as he says that all those news articles doing the rounds claiming that the Aussie has decided that it’s over for him are “nonsense”. This is interesting considering the fact that Kyrgios himself wrote in a newspaper column that his playing days might be over amid injury woes.

Writing for the Sydney Morning Herald, Kyrgios said that he is contemplating retirement and that he will not be available for the Paris Olympics. Kyrgios said that after having a discussion with his agent, he has realized that he might never come back and the Aussie is okay with that.

These words from Nick Kyrgios led to speculation among the fans about whether the Australian has decided to call it quits. Meanwhile, Kyrgios has come forward, quashing all the speculations and saying that he still wants to compete at the highest level.

There are some articles going around and saying that I am retired and I am not gonna play anymore, I just want to clear it up, it is absolute nonsense. Yes, last year has been tough with injury- my knee and wrist but I am as hungry as ever. Costanly rehabbing in the gym. (…) I'm coming back. Stay tuned. There is plenty left in the thank.
Nick Kyrgios said in a video posted on his Instagram stories.

In his column for the Sydney Morning Herald, Nick Kyrgios also talked about how he is enjoying his commentary stint. The Aussie wrote that the prospect of life after tennis excites him and he is looking at the options that can bring good money.

Kyrgios also highlighted that he is not the kind of player whose entire life revolves around playing tennis.

I could travel the world making really good money commentating on the sport, doing things like I am now with my talk show, interviewing guys like Gordon Ramsay and Mike Tyson. [Other players'] entire world revolves around playing tennis, and that's never been me.

Later, in his video on Instagram, Kyrgios explained that he chose to commentate on tennis because he did not want to lose touch. The 2022 Wimbledon finalist says that he wants to feel that fire and be a part of the sport and hence chose to work as a commentator.

It is worth mentioning that Nick Kyrgios has not picked up a racket in almost a year’s time now. The last time he played was at the Stuggart Open wherein he bowed out in the first round. The Aussie has tried to make a comeback but his body has failed him. Now, it is to be seen when Kyrgios decided to break the shackles.
