Sports enthusiasts are forever involved in debates around their favorite players and sports. Former World No. 13 Nick Kyrgios is no different. The Aussie recently took to his X (formerly Twitter) account to conduct a poll.

The Aussie had pitted soccer great Cristiano Ronaldo against NBA legend LeBron James. Both men are in the GOAT debate in their respective sports for their massive achievements. Both have numerous individual and team accolades in their respective professional careers.

James is spearheading the legendary franchise of the LA Lakers. Ronaldo, despite currently playing in Saudi Arabia, topped the charts for most goals scored in 2023. Both men are credited with setting examples of athleticism and work ethic, as their immaculate fitness has helped them extend their careers.

The Aussie bad boy has been seen doing the ‘SIU’, a trademark celebration of Ronaldo. When it comes to basketball, Nick has been an avid basketball fan. He’s been a big supporter of the Boston Celtics, one of the biggest rivals of the Lakers. The Celtics and Lakers are currently tied for 17 championships each, the most by any team ever. 

Kyrgios was, however, quite interested in their athletic ability. He emphasized focusing only on the athleticism of the two sporting icons. Both are 39 years old and still dominating in their respective sports.

Nick Kyrgios divides the internet due to his poll

Comparing a soccer player with an NBA player would not be correct. Both games have different demands, and the players have to work around that. 

Someone like Ronaldo needs to be sleek and agile to make long runs with high speed to get to the passes sent by his teammates.

Basketball is a more compact game in terms of playing area, and all of the players are constantly running up and down the court. With more physical contact as well, basketball players tend to bulk up. But soccer players can choose not to add weight, as it might slow them down while making runs. 

The poll by Kyrgios, however, had a quick response from netizens. More than 17.5k voters had dropped in their preferences between Ronaldo and James. They even expressed their opinions in the reply section, starting a huge debate.

Ronaldo led the poll with 57% of the votes, with 17,550 votes. However, with 19 hours more left for netizens to make their choice, it will be interesting to see whether James can overtake the Portuguese superstar.
