Tennis players and even legends have been subject to many slurs and abuse on social media. Many have talked about the rampage of negative and hateful social media messages they have received. Australian tennis legend Todd Woodbridge, too, has had to deal with abuse in recent times.

He talked about a message that he received from a social media user. The message wished death for the tennis legend when he suffered from a heart attack last year.

Just a old has been trying to stay in the lime light! Shame they heart attack didn’t end you,” the message read.

“Unfortunately Matt didn’t like my commentary alongside Jim Courier but this sort of behaviour is unacceptable and needs to be called out,” Todd Woodbridge said in response to these messages adding it to be ‘disgusting and disgraceful’ as reported by the British newspaper The Daily Mail.

However, many of Todd Woodbridge’s friends in the media, such as commentator Jelena Dokic, supported him.

“Good on you for calling it out. We are all behind you,” she wrote.

Former Australian tennis player Luke Saville also raised his voice in support of the tennis legend.

“Wow. That’s disgusting mate,” he added.

Meanwhile, Nick Kyrgios‘ manager Daniel Horsfall, too, jumped into this debate. He called the slurs he received working as a manager of the current World No.22 even more gruesome. He also added that compared to his situation, Todd Woodbridge has gotten off ‘pretty lightly’.

The three-time Australian Open doubles champion Todd Woodbridge was miffed at current Australian Open doubles champion Nick Kyrgios for withdrawing his name from the Australian Open 2023 at the very last moment. The 27-year-old cited injury reasons for taking this tough decision. He also suggested that he will undergo knee surgery soon.

Nick Kyrgios had to withdraw from both the United Cup 2023 and 2023 Adelaide International 2 tournament because of an ankle injury. However, this did not go down well with Todd Woodbridge who scolded the current World No.22 for not taking care for his health and not preparing well and in time for the first Grand Slam of the season.

Ultimately, you have to look at the preparation before – was that exactly right for what he needed? I would hope he has a look at what he did at Wimbledon last year when his preparation was great. The lead-up from a physical point of view, to then getting into the lead-in tournaments, to playing enough matches to be able to walk into Wimbledon knowing that everything was in that positive frame that he spoke about, that his ball striking was good, that his health was good, it gave him a chance to get in a final,” he opined.

“Was that the preparation that happened before this summer? That’s the question. If you were looking back at his schedule you would say that it was difficult to see that prep when he was flying around the world playing exhibition events,” he continued.

Nick Kyrgios is looking to return to the ATP tour at the Indian Wells Open 2023. He has also confirmed to play at the French Open 2023.
