Nicolas Mahut, the US Open doubles semi-finalist, opened up about the struggles he had to endure during this year’s US Open campaign. He also quoted the Russian World No.3 Daniil Medvedev‘s quote while explaining how hard it was for the players to cope with the intense heat and humidity of the New Year city this year. For the uninitiated, The French pair of Nicolas Mahut and Pierre-Hugues Herbert lost in the semis.

Post the exit, Mahut, on the intense conditions of New York, said, “I took a heat stroke, nothing original in this tournament. It does not warn. It came through the legs. Afterwards, you feel dizzy, want to vomit. I have a hole of ten- fifteen minutes. I heard Daniil. In conditions like this, some will fall.” (H/T: Goodwordnews)

Mahut’s reaction was similar to what players like Daniil Medvedev and Andrey Rublev had to tell about the hectic conditions of the US Open this year. Medvedev even told that players would die if they were allowed to play in these tough conditions. This statement came in the Russian’s quarter-final match against compatriot Rublev.

The Russian World No.3 Daniil Medvedev‘s quarter-final match against his compatriot and World No.6 Andrey Rublev was the most talked about match of the tournament in terms of the extreme conditions of the US Open this year. Though the match lasted only three sets and Medvedev came up on top, the match was way harder than the scoreline suggests.

After the match, Medvedev said, “At the end of the first set I couldn’t see the ball anymore. I played with sensations, try to go for it, try to run, try to catch the balls and he did the same sometime. Before the point it seems like he could not run any more, and I was like ‘when is he going to be tired’ but actually we were both tired. Super tough to win.”

Even Andrey Rublev’s antics during the encounter felt the same way as Medvedev explained. But the younger Russian said he was ready for the fight despite the conditions. “I’m not even thinking about my health. These moments I’m thinking I need to fight.. The sport is not easy. You need to be ready for anything.. The best players prove they’re ready & that’s why they’re the best. Yesterday Novak played in the same conditions,” Rublev said.
