Former Russian tennis player Nikolay Davydenko recently gave an interview for the ‘Championship’. In the interview, the 2009 ATP Finals winner reflected on his career and also compared the new generation of players to the World No.1, Novak Djokovic.

The Russian former World No.3 was quick to criticize the current generation of players for psychologically losing to the Serbian legend even before the match has started. He further added,

Djokovic also beats the younger generation with his head - they are already psychologically losing to him: “Ah, Djokovic, that’s all!” And Novak dominates thanks to this. What he does is unique. One might say, the only one like this so far.

He has called out to the new generation of players for having instilled fear in their minds before facing the inevitable and mighty 24-time Grand Slam champion. The former Russian tennis player also talked about how if Nole plays a tournament without preparing he saves his strength for every important match that he plays in which then has him at an advantage over the other players.

The former World No.3 has praised Novak Djokovic for his unique mindset and mental and physical capacities which have earned him his World No. 1 rank for the 8th time in his career. Speaking about how he plays with an accumulated skill set he has developed over the years, the Russian mentioned,

This person is unique to me. He plays with the skill that he has accumulated over the entire time when he even played with us - with Federer, Nadal, with me. Novak always adhered to his physical characteristics, tried to maintain strength and concentration.

The reigning US Open champion has played in a much greater and stronger era of tennis, according to the 2009 ATP Finals champion. He has called the generation of the ‘Big 3’ stronger than the current generation of players and cited how the young Spaniard, Carlos Alcaraz, is also a good enough competitor but does not exceed the Russian’s expectations.
